Presidents Update

The last few weeks has shown how quickly our world can change and how things that seemed important are now much less so.

What remains very important is the safety and wellbeing of Staff, Members and Guests and Your Board appreciates all your efforts and patience to continue to achieve this.

The past few weeks has seen all Competitions fully booked and Your Board has decreased the Tee gaps and increased time available to allow more Members to play. In addition, restrictions on the number of pre-bookings have been introduced to allow Members equitable access to the Sheets. Your Board is considering new initiatives including further reducing the Tee gaps (where this is safe to do) and changes to some of the Competitions.

This includes the Sunday Mixed to allow 4 Members' names (therefore enabling the Medley format) to be linked in the Comp BUT remaining in a 2-ball format on the course. The sheet will therefore have 4 names but have 12 minute gaps with each pair teeing off every 6 minutes. Your Golf Sub-Committee and Golf Professional, Marty are working on the finer details and will advise in the coming days.

Members will have noticed the new Halfway Bar renovations are well advanced and the area is shaping up to be a great new facility. Once this is complete, the current Bar will be dismantled and returned to a BBQ-only area. This will enable the return to monthly fundraising activities and more general use, when allowed. On behalf on Members, Your Board would like to acknowledge the significant work that has been done on this, much of it as volunteers, by Alex Cucchini, Ross Donaldson, Steve Panetta, Steve Cronin and Tony Zavaglia. Thank you!

Your Board is pleased to advise that, despite the current situation, the Club is OK financially. Much of this is due to the Government Stimulus Package but also careful management of staff rosters, costs and course utilisation. Members are reminded that Public Green Fees are a vital source of revenue, particularly now, and are requested to limit their Social Golf rounds to no more than 2 per week. Alternately, Members are encouraged to play after 4pm or perhaps even play 5 after 5. This will lessen the impact on Public Fees.

After the Board Meetings last night, I cooked dinner (aka Shirley and Ueli cooked dinner!) and I remind Members that Your Club Restaurant is open for takeaway from Thursday to Sunday 4:30-8pm.

Tomorrow is an important day as we honour and remember Our Veterans and Service personnel. A traditional event is planned with a 3 Club plus Putter Comp. Many of you and your loved ones will have been affected over several generations and our thoughts and best wishes are with you and your families on this special day.

We will all, I'm sure, also think of all the people currently fighting the Covid-19 war around the world and wish them strength, ingenuity and good health as they defend us from this insidious enemy.

Finally, there is light at the end of the tunnel and we are so lucky and privileged to be able to play Golf at this wonderful time of year on our beautiful course.

Stay well,

Mark Mathieson - President
