Gaming Room - Closed

Unfortunately, due to the current COVID-19 situation and further restrictions and obligations on the Club, the Gaming Room area will be closed. This will be reviewed at the end of September to see if restrictions have eased.

We feel this is essential to protect patrons and staff's safety, along with safeguarding the Club's exposure.

New Opening Hours

Commencing Monday 24 August, the Main bar upstairs will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays but the Downstairs Bar will remain open until 6pm on these days. Closes 5pm Wednesday to Friday with no change to Saturday and Sunday operating hours.

The Commemoration Cup is on this weekend, best of luck to all taking to the fairways for this annual event. In normal circumstances at the same time we celebrate our Club Person of the Year at our Commemoration Dinner Dance which has had to be postponed.

Keep an eye out in the 19th News as we are not cancelling but rather postponing this and intend to open nominations in the near future with the winner to be confirmed later in the year.

So watch this space and start thinking of  whom to nominate.

Vale Joan Turner

This week we farewell of one of our long-standing members Joan Turner. It is with our deepest regret we advise our members that Joan passed away on Monday August 17.

A member with us since 1974 for over 45 years , Associates President 1978-1980, she saw many changes in the club and was a wonderful source of many great stories and still loved getting together with all the ladies on presentation day. In her early days in the Club she participated in many of the concerts and reviews which were performed to a full house mostly on Sundays. She will be sadly missed.

Funeral Details: Next Thursday 27th August at 3pm, Macquarie Park Cemetery & Crematorium the Magnolia Room. All are welcome as the room has the capacity for 100 (even during COVID-19)

Ladies' Charity Day

Despite the COVID-19 restrictions, the ladies Charity Day went well and a field of 124 enjoyed an Irish Team Stableford in excellent conditions, with the course having benefited from a couple of windy days to dry it out. Division one was won by Linda Cho, Anna Lee, Sue Whang and Kim Jun with 94 points on a countback and division two by Lis Oldfield, Jan Bergin, Bev Boyer and Mena Rechichi with 90 points.

We are very grateful to the Club and Marty Lynne who generously donated the green fees. A special thanks to Mark Mathieson and the Board of the Club who have decided that, as our proceeds would be down on previous years, they would make an additional donation and bring the combined contribution from the Club up to $5,000 overall.  Together with the amount from Marty, money donated by the ladies and the Club donation, we made a total of $7,170 for our charity, The Shepherd Centre Transition to School Program for deaf children.

We thank the ladies for their generosity. A wonderful result in such difficult times.

Vet's News

2020 HAMS DAY:  This year, Vet's Hams Day is scheduled for 14th December however there will be some changes from previous years.

Firstly, there will not be a 2 Tee Start as indicated in the Fixtures Book, rather this will be replaced with Members starting at the 1st Tee from 8.30am onwards.  Having a 2 Tee Start creates problems with safe distancing on conclusion of Members' rounds and this is discouraged by both the NSW Health Department and Golf Australia..........

Our Future Champions

Once again our Cadet and Junior members enjoyed a two-day School Holiday "Kids Clinic" at Windsor at the Rum Corps Barracks Golf Centre in July.  Run by our experienced and passionate Junior Liaison Officer Joan ably assisted by Michael Flaherty, everyone enjoyed two days of fun, friendship and of course some fantastic coaching from the eight attending Professionals. We even had a hole in one by one of our many budding players. Inspired and with new-found confidence we'd better look out for the future challenges!

Please contact Joan through the Club to learn more about the well-supported junior and cadet programs - you may have a budding Golfer just itching to be taught??
