Ladies Update

The list of players wanting to qualify for the Club Championships is in the locker room. Please check that your preference has been recorded correctly.

Captain's versus President's Day saw a field of 126 players compete for their chosen team. It was a closely fought match with a win to the Captain's side with 1402 points defeating the President's side with 1395 points.

Demand for competition spots remains high and we are trialling a one tee start on Tuesdays to accommodate all who wish to play. In the three months July to September this year we had an average of 124 players on Tuesdays, with some people not getting a game, compared with an average of 90 in the same period last year. This is an increase of 38% with no increase in the number of ladies with active handicaps playing in those periods (185 in 2019 compared with 181 in 2020). Thursdays are similar with a 46% increase.

There is a continuing problem with slow play. On Tuesday 13th the first group went round in 3 ¾ hours but the field progressively slowed with the last group taking almost 5 hours. This is not acceptable and letters will be sent out to groups who do not meet the Club's Pace of Play policy. To that end it is important to submit your score as soon as you finish and check scores with your marker, whether you are using a card or the MiClub app. Failure to do so will result in a longer round time being recorded and risk a letter.

A priest, a doctor, a rich businessman and a Scotsman were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers in front of them.

The doctor said, "I've never seen such poor golf!"
The Scotsman chimed in, "Aye! We ha' been waitin' for nigh on fifteen minutes!"
The businessman called out, "Move it you guys, time is money."
The priest said, "Here comes Ron the greens-keeper. Let's have a word with him."
"Hello, Ron!" Said the priest, "What's wrong with that group ahead of us? They're rather slow, aren't they?"
Ron the greens-keeper replied, "Oh, yes. That's a group of blind fire fighters. They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we always let them play for free, anytime they want to."
The group fell silent for a moment.
The priest said, "That's so sad. I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight."
The doctor said, "Good idea. I'm going to contact my ophthalmologist colleagues and see if there's anything they can do for them."
The businessman replied, "I think I'll donate $350,000 to the fire-fighters in honour of these brave souls."

The Scotsman said, "Why can't they play at night?"
