There has been a record number of votes making it a close call for this year's award. We'd like to thank all those who have taken the time to vote for these outstanding members. It's a testimony to this club's mateship to celebrate the achievements and the hard work that all our volunteers do. We are lucky to have so many. Dec 9 Reminder New Format for Turkey Day

We will be playing in groups of five, you are allowed one visitor per group.

Tee times will be available from 6:30am to 1:30pm. Cost of the Day will be $30 for a Member and $50 for a Visitor. There will be a drinks cart on the course.

All team members tee off each hole. Team chooses the shot they are going to use, there will be no minimum amount of tee shots that need to be taken from each player this year. The golfer whose shot is taken is eliminated from participating in the next shot. A player is only eliminated for the one shot following his/her selected shot. This process continues with one person being eliminated for each shot up until the ball is on the green with all players putting (i.e only four players play each shot except for the tee shot & putts). All five players tee off the next hole and the elimination process begins again. The eliminated player cannot take a practice shot during the time they are eliminated.

There will be no presentation after the end of play and winners will be able to pick up their "Turkey" either on the day, or on the Thursday or Friday by seeing either the office or bar staff. All turkeys must be picked up by Friday December 11.

Vet's News

I wish to start this report for the 19th News with an item of momentous significance.  Our own Don Flanagan 89 years young, a NRGC Member for 52 years and one of the original Vet Members, during last Mondays Vets game and at the 9th Hole, scored a 3 a 6 - yes, that's correct, an EAGLE.  WOW !!  This was achieved with a drive which Don said was one of his best, followed by a very strong and accurate 3 metal wood, and finished off with a 6 iron that landed at the front of the green and bounced forward towards the pin.  This was the last Don saw of the ball until he lifted it out of the cup accompanied by much excitement from his playing group.  From all Vet Members and all Club Members

"CONGRATULATIONS DON FLANAGAN"

To finish, one last reminder of our Hams Day on 14th December.

  • Cost:  $15
  • Game Format:  Individual Stableford and Best 3 out of 4 Stableford.  One tee start.
  • Ham Qualification:  16 games.  There will not be the usual distribution of hams.  At the conclusion of your game, qualified players are to proceed to the Office and you will be directed to the Cool Room for collection.  Players will not be allowed to collect hams for absent Members.  These Members will be required to arrange with the Office to collect their ham at a later date.
  • Food and Drink:  There will be no sausage sizzle this year, but players are encouraged to avail themselves of both food and drink from the half-way bar at their own expense.
  • COVID Restrictions The usual Club safety restrictions on congregating and registering etc. will apply and must be observed by all players.

Hole in One's

So nice to be able to congratulate even more of our members.

A Hole-in-One is one of the most exciting achievements a golfer can have playing our great game. We are proud to recognise those golfers who have achieved this astounding feat in the last month.

Byron Kerr Nov 15 on the 10th
Dilip Khakhar Nov 11 on the 3rd

As we are congratulating we would like to also highlight other members who achieved Eagles last month:  Alex Sghabe, Jim Dolan, Karim Mouahbi, Matthew Stretton & Tom Crockart

Course Report

With the extreme heat and high winds of last weekend come Monday morning the whole course was trashed with tree branches, leaf litter and 3 trees blown over. It was a huge task for the greens staff to have to blow (clean) every area before any mower could get to work and prepare the course for the day's play.

As you would all know with the two days of high temperatures our course weather station recorded a top on Saturday of 41.9 at 1.00pm and 41.5 on Sunday at 12.00pm the  2 staff on duty both afternoons deserve  to be congratulated in not only preventing any turf loss but also working for 3 hours in the heat hand  hosing the greens to keep them alive, a great effort.

The Voice from the Clubhouse

It was a sunny Saturday morning, a little before 8 a.m., I was on the first hole at The Oaks of St. George Golf Club and beginning my pre-shot routine, when a piercing voice came over the clubhouse loudspeaker:

"Would the gentleman on the woman's tee back up to the men's tee please!"

I could feel every eye on the course looking at me. I was still deep in my routine, seemingly impervious to the interruption.

Again the announcement: "Would the man on the woman's tee kindly back up to the men's tee."

I simply ignored the guy and kept concentrating, when once more, the voice yelled, "Would the man on the woman's tee back up to the men's tee. please?!?!"

I finally stopped, turned around, cupped my hands and shouted back: "Would the jerk with the microphone please keep quiet and let me play my second shot!"
