Vice Captain's Update

Dear Playing Members,
Just a few changes to be noted moving into the 2022 year.  Following a review of the field sizes  and gradings as of January 1:

  • Men's D Grade will no longer exist.
  • The Saturday Competitions & Major Events A & B Grade will remain the same, while the Current C & D Grade's will be combined together.
  • On Sunday & Wednesday competitions the Grades split evenly depending on the players handicaps on the Day.

Merry Christmas, Ben Brown - Vice Captain

Join us for the Next Nine & Dine

Our first Nine & Dine Nine ran yesterday evening, Thursday 16 December with 32 players, many of whom joined in the spirit of the event coming dressed in Christmas outfits to celebrate the season.

Congratulations to our winners Kerrie Cunningham and Lynne Jackson with 29 points for 10 holes and to Sonia Flores and husband who were the lucky winners of the Raffel taking home a large gourmet hamper to enjoy. This was followed by a delicious meal at beautifully decorated tables continuing the tone for a wonderful evening.

Please join us for the next Nine & Dine events January 13 and 27 in the New Year.

18th Green Construction this Week

Unfortunately the wet weather from last week has slowed progress for a number of days but now with some good weather we are pushing ahead. The second and final 150mm layer of green's sand has been placed and allowing for final trimming to be completed.  All main drainage lines and low area pits have been installed and final bunker shaping with the drainage lines now completed. The capillary concrete bunker lining is booked for installation next Tuesday.

Hams Day Another Great Day!

The weather held and another great day was had last Saturday, 11 December with a field of 206 members competing in the annual Hams Day Competition. While some looked like they were sitting down on the job (or just very relaxed) others were seen jumping for joy. It was great to see everyone back once again with their team mates competing for their Christmas Ham!

Congratulations to those teams who won hams this year and better luck next year for those who missed out, Merry Christmas to all.

Next Step
Completed in our Energy & Power Upgrade

The timing was very kind in enabling the main air-conditioning to be shutdown last Saturday while the new more energy efficient system was connected with minimal impact on our Members, guests and staff during trading hours.

Today we saw the last of the old units removed for re-cycling.

Locker Room Clean Up

Dear members, a quick note to alert you to collect items which have been left on top of the men's lockers as these will be cleared out on Monday as the top of the lockers get a good clean.

Vets' Round Up

Last Monday, 132 Members played in our annual Hams Day.  This is the highest number we've ever had.  We appreciate that our numbers were boosted by the opportunity of winning one of 52 hams which were on offer, nevertheless it was a great turnout.  We ran 2 Competitions: a Best 3 out of 4 team event plus a Single Stableford competition.

Winners were:
Best 3 out of 4: Serge Puz, Ron Stewart, Alister McIntosh and Terry Thelwell with  a score of 133.
Singles Stableford: Murray Ironfield with 45 points

Congratulations to all the winners and your Committee trusts that everyone enjoyed the day.  We hope that next year we will be able to return to the preferred Sausage Sizzle BBQ.

We wish to extend our thanks to both Graham and Marty for their assistance and support to the Committee for this day.

Notwithstanding the fractured year we have all experienced, we have noticed that participation in our Vets' days has markedly increased over the last 6 months.  We are now regularly attracting around 110 to 115 players each fortnight.  We do hope that this will flow through to our games next year.

Not only for the Vets' but for all members, this year has been a very different year for reasons which do not require any elaboration.  We can only hope that as 2021 closes, the worst is behind us and 2022 will be brighter and will allow us to be more confident about the future.  With this in mind let us start with a joyous Christmas, followed by a happy and healthy New Year.  Your Committee extends these wishes to you all.

Thank you all for your support this year and we look forward to seeing you for our first game in 2022 on 10 January.

Scott Beatty  - Vets' Captain
