Sunday
2 Ball Competitions Trial

Following a review by the Golf Committee of the field sizes and number of competitions run on Sunday, we will be trialling reducing the number of competitions to running a single Medley 2 Ball competition for the next three months.  You may be aware that numbers in the Sunday fields have been down, impacted by Pennants, Weekend Women Pennants and Junior Pennants.  The current format of running a Mixed 2 Ball, Men's 2 Ball and Women's 2 Ball mean that with reduced numbers in the fields, the prizes offered, being a reflection of field size are also down.

Therefore, without reducing the actual prize pool offered over the previous three competitions, from Sunday 6 August, to allow a better allocation of the prize pool, we will be trialling a reallocation of the prize pool to the one Medley 2 Ball competition.

Course Report

We had one of our coldest mornings last Thursday, 21 July at North Ryde Golf Club getting down to a chilly 2.4 degrees.

Due to the low temperature,  frost occurred mostly in the low-lying areas like the 1st and 4th fairways.

What happens to our Turf when we have a frost? Due to our fairway grass varieties kikuyu/couch preferring the warmer weather, the colder temperatures will really slow the growth down and the turf will become discoloured (brown).

To help reduce the full effect of the frost we irrigate the turf to slowly melt the frost away. The good news is the frost will not kill the grass, it's purely a cosmetic appearance and as winter turns to spring the grass will re awaken and begin growing again.

Super Saturday Fun

Another great Super Saturday event was run last weekend on Saturday, 22nd July.  We had over thirty one Golfing winners pictured above. Together with family members, visitors and locals joined us for presentations. It was a great turnout with enjoyable background music by the QC Collective.  Adding to the excitement was of course the $1000 Members cash draw split amongst three lucky winners, Jane Choi $200, Soo Ha $300 and Barry Toms winning the $500. Steve Callaghan, Director was assisted with drawing our winners this month by long term member Jacky Parsons. Congratulations all round.

Update - 2023 Eric Apperly Shield

North Ryde Golf Club's Eric Apperly team played against Concord at Oatlands on Sunday, 23 July.  Concord won the Eric Apperly Shield last year so it was always going to be a very tough game and although they lost 5 to 1, the NRGC Eric Apperly team played very well and will be better for the experience of playing one of the top teams in the State.

This coming Sunday, 30 July we look forward to utilising our home turf advantage as we play against the Avondale team at North Ryde, 10:58am. So please wish them all the best!

Ben Brown - Team Manager/Club Captain
