North Ryde, like many courses in Sydney, is experiencing an unfortunately prolonged wet weather pattern that has forced the closure of the course.
We have made the necessary call and closed the course over the coming weekend as it is saturated, having received 604mm of rainfall over just three months of April, May and June and with more than 40mm over the past week. To put this in perspective, North Ryde's annual rainfall is 1,072mm. The reason for the drenching lies in the high air pressure, please see the below link to an article which explains the phenomenon.
Whilst we are concerned with the damage which could result from playing on the course, our greater concern is for your safety. The below photos and clips will give you a better understanding of just how slippery it is.
Apart from the drenched state of the course, as you are aware we are also dealing with cooler temperatures, shorter daylight hours, low evapotranspiration rates and extended shade. All these factors exaggerate the time it takes to dry the course to a level where play can take place. This means any damage to the course would take two to three months to recover.
We look forward to again having you back and playing at North Ryde but in the meantime, please know that we welcome you to come and meet up with friends and playing partners in the dry and warmth of the Club.
