Meet Our New Super Luke

We are pleased to introduce our new Course Superintendent Luke Telford who starts working at North Ryde on Monday 16 October.

Luke brings with him a wide range of experience gained over fifteen years in the industry.  Luke has diligently worked his way through the ranks including at The Coast and then Cronulla as senior greenkeeper prior to becoming Superintendent at Kareela four years ago.

He in lives in the Sutherland Shire and supports, guess who, the Cronulla Sharks NRL Team. A very happy family man with two young boys, aged 6 and 4. Luke enjoys watching sports and playing golf so you will definitely see him out on the course after hours working on his swing while undertaking a "course inspection".

Please say hello to Luke when you see him around the course and the Club, he's looking forward to meeting all our Members and staff.

Enjoy the Action in the Sports Bar

Great to see so many enjoying the Grand Final action in The Sports Bar last weekend for the AFL Grand Final on Saturday and the NRL Grand Final Sunday. We noticed a few patrons multi-tasking their viewing between the Super Screen showing the Grand Final and the Ryder Cup on some of the smaller screens around the room.

Certainly, a great space to enjoy your favourite sporting events with a backdrop of some of the best views in North Ryde for when you can't watch that nail biter any longer. We have a great range of beers on tap, wines and cocktails as well as bar menu available lunch and dinner.

For those who love the noise and fumes of the race track this weekend the iconic Bathurst Race is on the Sports Bar Super Screen which can certainly bring you close to the action!

If its soccer, rugby, horse racing, cars, the trots, basketball, netball we have enough screens to watch it all.

Upcoming Events on the Big Screen

World cup cricket;

- India v Australia 7.30pm Sunday 8th October

- Australia v South Africa 7.30pm Thursday 12th October

Featuring Tevita Pangai Junior, Junior Paulo, Jason Taumalolo, Paulo Aokuso, Nelson Asofa-Solomona & more from 6.30pm Saturday 7th October.

B Grade

With a tough 7-5 win over Hornsby RSL last week and brimming with confidence it was time to take on The Cat & Fiddle Hotel.

After a slow team doubles start and trailing 3-1 at home , The Tigers kicked into gear with a near whitewash in the singles. With solid wins to Peter Miller (156 High Score leg), Pedro Constantino & Ryan Bissett, the boys were back on track taking 5 of the 6 matches to claim a very impressive comeback 8-4 win to cement their hold on 3rd place on the ladder and just 3 back from leaders Nth Ryde RSL.

 A Grade

After being pipped at the post 8-7 away to Burwood RSL last week to drop back to 2nd place it was time for redemption against arch rivals Gladesville Sporties.

Having in form Captain Tommy Crockart not playing and the team away from home yet again,  it was time to bring back the biff !!  And who better to call on when the going gets tough - that's right Uncle Bundi !!  With broken foot (Ala team mate Jacko Fennell) Bundi brushed off the injuries, stared down the opposition and stuck it to them getting the doubles on track to lead 5-4 at the break. Chest's now out it was then a procession with relentless pounding of the opposition big guns from son Dell, Jacko & The King (Greg Bowen) getting the match to an unbeatable 8-4 lead.

So with the match already won it was time for the icing on the cake from Aidan Kinder (son of club legend Charlie) who not only threw 180 earlier but also produced best singles leg of the night with 21 darter (71.57 average) capping off a magnificent 9-6 team victory to take back the lead in A Grade with only a handful of matches remaining in the regular season. Great effort to both our teams !.

PS> Personal eternal thanks to my team for dedicating this win to my father (my legend and my best mate) Kevin Warwick who sadly passed away last week after a very long battle (RIP Dad).

Please Meet Christie

Over the past couple of weeks another new face you will have seen in the Members' Lounge and the Sports Bar is Christie Goulding.  Christie resides locally in Marsfield and although not new to working behind the bar, having poured beers and mixed cocktails for 7 years, she is new to the world of Golf. Although not ready to give it a go on our course quite yet she cheekily said she's booked in for her first game ever at Holey Moley next week - not sure that counts?

Christie keeps fit not only working her day job in admin and working at NRGC some of her evenings but also following her love of Yoga and Salsa Dancing. Obviously not one to stand for long you can understand, she is also an ex-marathon runner having run in over 15 marathons including an ultra of over 50km, full marathons and half marathons.

Christie's other passion is travel and she did in fact live overseas for 10 years in the UK. Now back living in Oz for some years she still loves to travel and meet new people so is really enjoying meeting our Members & Visitors at North Ryde. So, say G 'day when you see her.
