New Board Member

The Club's Board of Directors currently has a vacancy and with the increased demands, has decided to appoint a Director to the Board until the next election in June 2025.

The Board is keen to ensure that any eligible Member who wishes to be considered can do so by confidentially emailing me (including a brief Bio) at President@NorthRydeGolfClub.com.au before 5pm, Friday 5 July.

The Board meets monthly, and Directors also normally sit on one or two of the Golf, Club and Finance, Technology, Administration and Audit (FTAA) Sub-committees, which also meet monthly.

Please note that all North Ryde Golf Club Limited Directors act in a voluntary capacity and, to be considered, must meet the requirements of ASIC under the Corporations Act.

Mark Mathieson - President and Chairman of the Board

14th Green Open

Although the weather was less that hospitable on Friday, 14 June with ominous clouds, members of the Board and Management were very excited to be able to officially open the new 14th Green. Even under the grey sky it is a gorgeous sight.

Congratulations to the Golf Management Team and Superintendent Luke Telford who have worked tirelessly to ensure that the 14th green exceeds your expectations.

It is opportune to remind members to repair pitches and divots throughout the course. Whilst we are really proud of how well the 14th green now presents, it will take up to two years until it has fully established its structure and base. So, fixing your divots is really important and will make the golfing experience better for all.

Don't forget the first Hole in One achieved on the 14th in competition will earn that member a $500 top-up on their House Account. Here's to the weather settling down so all can get out and enjoy this new feature on our course and possibly get that Hole in One!

Master Pennants

Week 5 - Sunday, 16 June:  Luckily, despite the inclement weather we had been facing, the Course was open for Members and Pennants. The second last match of the competition rounds and we were hosting Northbridge at home. A win on this weekend would confirm our status at the top of our section and see us progress to the Semi-final stage. In another tight contest we were able to come out victors 5 games to 3, a pleasing result with one match to go before the finals.

Week 6 - Sunday, 23 June:  Following concerns all week about the weather, our last game in the play off rounds was against Northbridge at Northbridge. Even though we had already qualified for the semi-final, a win against them away would consolidate our position leading into the play offs. Any time you play away from home against solid opposition is a challenge. In a very tight match we were successful, winning 4.5 to 3.5. Our win was due to a great effort from Greg Sheaves (Kak) who had been down but fought on to win on the last hole to go one up and gave us the win. Special mention must also go to Glenn Blundell (Nads) who completed the whole regular season (6 matches) undefeated.

This is the third year in a row where we have won our Section only to get narrowly beaten in each of the previous semi-finals. This year we hope to go at least one better.

I would once again, like to take this opportunity to thank our Sponsors - TyrePower, Palmers Glass and West Ryde Smash Repairs, along with continued support from the band of our loyal Club Members, it is very much appreciated.

Steve Callaghan - Team Manager

75th Annual General Meeting

Thanks to all the Members who braved the cold on Monday night to attend the Club's 75th AGM.

President Mark Mathieson led the meeting in paying respects with a minute of silence to farewell Members who are no longer with us. We then celebrated the achievement of 50 years of membership, with Mark presenting Glenn Steer with his 50 year commemorative gold pin.  Congratulations Glenn.

After all motions where carried and questions addressed, many stayed on for a drink and nibbles. The AGM is always a great opportunity to understand the workings of your Club. Playing Members are reminded that Club Information like the Board Reports, Annual Report, Club Constitution and Club By-Laws are all available on the Club's website.

Thanks once again for all those who attended and to our Board for once again volunteering their time and skills.

First Aid - Thanks

We had a wonderful response from Members keen to attend the free Member First Aid courses and in fact had a waiting list running.

The Club office has received great feedback and  reviews from those who attended the training held on Thursday 20 and Sunday 23 June, with attendees noting how informative, professional the sessions were and how confident they now feel if the need arises to act in a emergency situation.

We would like to thank Member Norm Spalding for volunteering his professional skills, time and dedication in running these courses for fellow Members. Norm has offered to look at running another course later in the year for those who missed out.

Joining Dry July?

Dry July is a fundraiser that encourages you to go alcohol-free for the month of July to raise funds for people affected by cancer. We will have all known or rubbed shoulders with someone in our community, Club or maybe even a little bit closer to home that has been effected by Cancer in one of its many forms. We would like to support those going Dry this July, as their fundraising helps provide invaluable services for cancer patients, their families and carers - whether it's transport to a life-saving appointment, guidance from a specialist nurse, connection to an informative voice, access to therapy programs or a bed close to treatment.

So if you know someone stepping forward and participating in Dry July, don't give them a hard time but support them. Put your hand in your pocket and sponsor them or even give it a go yourself - you can check out the Dry July Campaign by clicking this LINK.

The Club has many non-alcohol drink options: soft drinks and juice and two zero alcohol beers to choose from, plus non-alcoholic sparkling wine. Or try one of our mocktail specials, available for the month of July to support those participating in Dry July.
