Course Renovations

The weather was in our favour as Spring renovations were comprehensively undertaken and completed over three days. Thanks to all our hard-working turf care team but also bar staff and casuals, assistance from another course and importantly three hard-working volunteers all rolling up their sleeves to lend a hand for a successful renovation.

Over the three-day major renovations, the team have completed the following.

Greens

  • Minus 4mm scarification.
  • Hollow core removal with a 12.5mm core diameter.
  • All cores and debris cleaned up.
  • 60 tonne of washed Newcastle sand has been incorporated back into the profile.
  • Amendments have been applied to the greens. These amendments are carried out from the laboratory soil tests which show extremes and deficiencies in the soil profile.

Fairways

  • Fairways have had a two-direction scarification.
  • Turf surfaces scalped down to 10mm.
  • Granular application of gypsum and fertiliser applied.

Tees

  • Surfaces have been scalped down to 7mm.
  • Hollow core removal with a 12.5mm core diameter.
  • Cores have been allowed to dry and rubbed back in to aid as a topdressing.
  • Granular application of gypsum and fertiliser applied.

Reasons for renovations

  • Removal of thatch and matt.
  • Relieve compaction.
  • Amend extremes & deficiencies in the soil profile.
  • Encourage deep root systems.
  • Allow gaseous exchange (oxygen into profile, gases to exit)
  • Rejuvenation for new turf.

Major renovations play an important role in maintaining turf surfaces. I thank you for your cooperation and patience during this time.

Now let's hope we can get a small amount of rainfall at night time to assist in the recovery of turf surfaces.

Thank you, Luke Telford - Superintendent

75th Commemoration, What a Great Night

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday, 24 August, to celebrate our Club's significant 75th Commemoration. The Club Lounge, leading into the restaurant, showcased its versatility as a fantastic spacious venue with a dance floor and a dazzling stage. We had a limit of 175 attendees and we were completely sold out. We are now naturally expecting a full house of 200 for the Opera Night in December.

This Commemoration not only honours our Club's history but also recognizes the individuals contributing to its ongoing success. Countless efforts are made behind the scenes, often unseen. The Club Person of the Year award is a small token of appreciation for the selfless and dedicated work of our volunteers. This year, we proudly announced Norm Spalding as the 2024 Club Person of the Year for his exceptional service as a first aid first responder and trainer. Norm's commitment to organising and conducting numerous First Aid courses is truly commendable. Congratulations, Norm, for your outstanding professionalism and dedication.

During the event, we also revealed the winner of the Commemoration Cup, a tradition that dates back to the Club's founding General Meeting on August 19, 1949. This year, marking the Cup's 75th anniversary, Murray Ironfield was announced as the 2024 winner. Congratulations, Murray.

The evening was filled with celebration, camaraderie and joy as our Members and guests gathered to enjoy the splendid venue, delicious food, and music by FABBA, transporting us back to the 70s. FABBA had everyone on the dance floor, singing and clapping along to classic ABBA tunes. The lively atmosphere had guests showing off their best 70s attire and dance moves, making it a challenge to pick the evening's winners and adding a delightful touch of fun to the event.

Thank you once again for making this night unforgettable, and we eagerly anticipate our upcoming events at the Club and in particular the “The Opera Extravaganza” - watch out for details on booking shortly.

Super Senior Pennants

Game 6 was played at Asquith against Muirfield on Thursday, 22nd August. Muirfield were in the running to finish second place in our division and progress to the playoffs. North Ryde had other ideas and the team played some of their best golf all season to hold Muirfield to a 4-4 draw.  Winners for North Ryde were Roy Shuttleworth, Warren Clark, John Yoo and Jeail Kim. Great effort!

Game 7 of Super Senior Pennants was played at Roseville against Monash. Monash had the division won after 5 rounds as they were the best team by far. North Ryde gave a hundred percent effort but were outclassed 7-1. The winner was Warren Clark with another two matches going to the 18th. It was a tough season for the team as we were down several players for most of the season. I'd like to thank the team for the effort they put in. The team finished 6th.

Peter Richardson - Team Captain

Women's News

2024 Women's Charity Day:   Charity Day was a huge success, starting with the weather, the golf, but most of all it was so successful due to the generosity of you, the golfing women of North Ryde Golf Club, the men who willingly supported the raffle, the club itself and the community who gave prizes so thoughtfully. It was inspiring to hear James Gribbles, founder of Empower Golf, talk about what it has meant to him and his fellow impaired golfers to be supported and encouraged to participate in life through a love of the game of golf.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH. TOGETHER WE RAISED $5,664 FOR EMPOWER GOLF

Women's AGM:  The Annual General Meeting of the Women's Committee will be held on Thursday, 3 October 2024 at 7PM. Nomination forms for all committee positions are on the noticeboard in the locker room, or they can be downloaded from this link

More committee members are desperately needed . . . . . .

Club Lounge Update

The Club Lounge has recently received a makeover with the addition of new furniture. Despite the Clubhouse's temporary tranquility during renovations this week, the arrival of the new furniture sparked a flurry of activity. A dedicated team of volunteers swiftly assembled and installed various furniture pieces, including lounges, armchairs, and tables. The updated furniture has given the Club Lounge a fresh and luxurious ambience.

Special recognition and thanks goes to the exceptional team of volunteer furniture installers, namely Rob Righton, Russ Fennell, Ross Donaldson, Terry Townsend, led by Director Steve Callaghan volunteering once again many hours of their time. Their efforts have greatly enhanced the aesthetics of the Club Lounge. We eagerly anticipate our Members and Guest enjoying this revitalised space.

Dam Wildlife?

During the course renovations this week, you might have spotted from the Clubhouse some intriguing wildlife in our dams, or perhaps something disrupting the natural habitat.

Usually around renovations time, a golf ball diver recovers the numerous lost balls that accumulate at the bottom of the four dams. This is a multi day task

So, confirming not a swamp monster, but a skilled recycler spotted emerging from the dams as retrieving the balls, that are then cleaned and put back into use.  He'll be back again in the next six months to collect more lost balls helping with the upkeep of our dams.
