NRGC is Energy Wise

Green Energy & Power Upgrade

Over the last few weeks we commenced the first stage of our energy efficiency upgrade, being updating our lighting to LEDs.

In coming weeks you will see technicians on site, installing Solar, replacing two of the air conditioning packaged units with modern efficient versions and re-gassing other Air-Conditioners with Natural Refrigerants.

The project will deliver some impressive sustainability results. It is expected that the upgrades will reduce our CO2 emissions from electricity generation by approximately 180 Tons each year. Aside from the financial benefits of using the highly efficient natural refrigerant, moving away from the old R22 and R410a gas arrests ongoing ozone depletion.

The natural refrigerants are future-proof as they are not subject to the Australian Government regulatory phase-down of high Global Warning Potential (GWP) refrigerants in accordance with the Montreal Protocol. The added benefit is that they are more energy efficient and help reduce our electricity consumption and costs.

While there have been date changes with Covid-related supply chain issues, our anticipated upcoming milestones are:

  • 25 & 26 November – the platforms for the new Air Conditioning package units are being assembled and put in place on the roof.
  • 5 December – The first of the new packaged units will commence being installed with a crane on-site to perform this work. The old packaged unit being removed and sent for re-cycling.
  • 15 December – Solar installation will take 7-8 days.
  • 22 December – LED lighting project completed.

We will keep you informed as the project develops and as new systems are installed and commissioned.
