Club 6
North Ryde Golf Club is proud to be part of the founding organisation Club 5 since its formation in 1988. Club 5 which later became known as Club 6 Club. Club 5 was the brainchild of Bob Stevens, President of Gladesville Bowling and Sports Club joining the forces of the local community Clubs, united in their desire to work together in the industry, promote favourable attitudes and support local community in the Ryde/Gladesville area. These Clubs currently are:
- North Ryde Golf Club
- North Ryde RSL Community Club
- Gladesville RSL Club
- Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club
- Gladesville Sporties
- Ryde Ex-Services Club
In the early days Club 5 was not involved with donations to outside organisations but it was agreed that as Ryde District Hospital serviced the area in which the initial 5 clubs operated, they as an association would donate to the Hospital. This paved the way for Club 6 to expand their support and associations in the community with organisations such as Ryde Sports Foundation since 1995.
Each club is responsible annually for hosting one meeting and organising a guest speaker once a year. Last Friday it was North Ryde Golf Club’s turn to spotlight our Club holding a luncheon with Guest Speaker Rob Wilkinson from Ryde Sports Foundation.
Rob spoke about the establishment of the Ryde Sport Foundation in Nov 1979, 43 years ago formalised in 1980. Formed to assist local sportspeople and organise fundraising to assist the Olympic Council. Their work continues to this day to support athletes achieve their dream to represent state and country and to be the best ambassadors for their sport in Ryde. The Ryde Sports Foundation has been officially recognising excellence in local sport. More than 500 local sports stars have been recognised through the Sports Star of the Month Award.
