Super News from our Vice President

It seems once again like a long time since I last wrote to you. With the sun shining and the season of Spring at our doorstep, things are looking bright around the Course and the Club, let’s hope this blossoming continues (no more deluges of rain please).

Last Saturday almost 100 members were wined, dined and entertained at the annual Commemoration Dinner.  This celebration pays homage to the pioneers that created our wonderful facility as well as recognising the efforts of all that have contributed to the welfare, growth and improvement of the Club over the decades. It really was a wonderful evening with a fantastic band providing the entertainment for the night.  I will go as far as saying, as did others, the best band ever to perform at the club and we have had plenty of talented performers over recent years. The band “Cherry” was so good that people started dancing before entrée was finished and the dance floor was full all night.  I don’t think I have been to a function at the Club where that has happened.

Of course, we announced our Club person of the year 2022. As you are aware, we had 5 finalists, being Linda Mathieson, Rob Positti, Elizabeth Sung, Per Wallen and Rob Righton, any of whom would have made a worthy winner.  On behalf of the Board and Management, we thank each of them for their efforts in making the Club a better place. Elizabeth Sung took out the honours this year. Elizabeth was very humble in her acceptance of the award, making a wonderful speech on how welcoming, friendly and kind our members were to her when she first joined. Since then, she has made a conscience effort to do the same and help in any way she can to assist the Club’s continued improvement, inclusiveness, growth and wellbeing.

Congratulations to all nominees and especially to Elizabeth.  Special thanks to management and staff for organising a wonderful evening.

Attending the Commemoration Dinner again reminded me – What a great value way to get a group of friends together for a fun night out.  I urge all members to consider joining us at future Club functions. A wonderful way to celebrate each other’s company and no washing up!!

Our next big event is the Sports Lunch on the Fri 23 September. Once again, we have a tremendous working party of volunteers (PK and Rusty) helping myself and management organise a top afternoon of fun and sport, hope to see you there.

As I speak, we are also busy working on the annual Melbourne Cup luncheon with November not too far away.

Keep your eyes out for the date of the Club’s Christmas Party, like the Commemoration Dinner it’s another opportunity for a top night of food, wine, song and dancing with friends.

Something I’m really proud of is the Super Sunday Presentations and Member’s Cash Draw each Super Sunday and every third Friday. After ironing out a few bugs we now have the formula for a successful presentation where we get to enjoy the company of family and friends with FREE entertainment and best value food and drinks in the district. While Friday Meat raffles have always drawn a good crowd of Members and guests, it is very pleasing to see the Super Sunday is being supported more and more by Golfing and Social members. We are now bringing in crowds we haven’t seen for many years on Sunday afternoons, I suspect the guaranteed $1,000.00 member badge draw might have something to do with that.

So come along! Don’t be the one who’s name gets drawn out and you’re not there to collect!! Get your friends and family to become Social members so they can be in the chance to WIN – the more the merrier.

That it from me, look forward to seeing you around the Club, please come up and say hello.

Head down and follow through,

Alex Cicchini – Vice President
