Sports Lunch Roundup

Hello to my NRGC family, I’m excited to report on last Friday’s successful Sports Lunch hosted by NRGC.

Finally, we have well and truly broken the shackles of Covid’s hold on the Club’s social events. Hot on the heels of our successful Commemoration Dinner Dance, last Friday saw the Club host its first Sports Lunch in two years.

To say it was a resounding success is an understatement, it was a tremendous afternoon on all counts. First it was almost a full house with 92 attendees at the event, we still had a bit of room to allow for more attendees so I urge you to join us next time. It was both a serious and hilarious look at sport from yesteryear through to today.  To all who attended, members, guests, our corporate partners as well as local community business groups, you all played a big part in the success of the day so thank you for your support.

Secondly our guest speakers were fantastic. NRGC’s own Mark Taylor gave us a great insight into the upcoming International Cricket Season. Former Australian Rugby League player Paul Langmack gave his expert opinions on the Rugby League’s finals. Last and by no means least we had Racing Broadcaster Dave Stanley from Sky Racing provide us with some tips for the current Spring Carnival and Melbourne Cup. All three were very generous with their time providing the crowd with hilarious anecdotes of experiences in their sporting careers. Very entertaining indeed.

Thirdly and most importantly was our magnificent MC for the day also part of the NRGC family. Journalist, Sports Journalist, Sports Presenter and Sports Director of Australian Radio, Jim Dolan. Jimmy is the ultimate professional, his wit, command of language and indelible interviewing brought the whole day together. Thank you so much Jim you made the day.

Thanks to Management staff and caterer for putting on a magic day. Plus, a special thanks to the working party that helped myself and Graham put the magic together, Paul Kalina and ‘Rusty’ Russ Fennel.

Our next function is the Melbourne Cup Lunch on Tue 1 November, we do ‘great value’ functions so I urge all of you to book and come along. The Club relies on the support of its Members in helping these events to succeed and grow PLUS it’s a really good time, so invite your friends and family, all are welcome.

See you at the Friday night Meat Raffle. Head down follow through,

Alex Cicchini – Vice President
