Captains Message – Competition Bookings

Dear Members,

With the commencement of the winter months we are all noticing the shorter days. Obviously with shorter days comes less tee times available in the members comps. I pay great attention to the comp sheets and look at them almost daily. What is concerning me is, with the reduction of tee times through winter we are getting anywhere from 15 – 25 names on the wait list and the comp sheets are full, come Friday evening there is a large amount of people taking their names out and even whole groups out. They might think that this is all good and that those on the wait list are getting a game but more often than not the comp field on the day is not full and we have vacant spots. I am going to ask everyone to pay a little more attention to their bookings. If we could all finalize our bookings before Thursday and give other members a chance to get a spot in the field. You will find that if a member can’t get a spot before Friday that they will organize to do something else on the golfing day. Let’s start thinking of others.

Along with the tee times in winter comes the break at the halfway bar. During winter the players at the end of the field struggle to finish before dark. Often, we find 3 or 4 groups waiting at halfway and can’t move onto the back nine. Halfway is not a sit down and have a 15-minute rest, members need to be aware of the group in front and if the tee is vacant you should grab your food or drink and move on (if the tee is free, grab & go). We need to start thinking of other members and not just our own group.

Lastly, I have had some comments about divots and pitch marks. During the cooler months we notice a lot more divots on the course, this is mainly because the grass doesn’t grow over the divot as quickly or even at all until the weather gets warmer. If we could all try and make an effort to fill in our divots and others that you can see nearby, that would help the situation. Same thing goes for pitch marks, fix your own and try to fix another as well.

Good Golfing
