President’s Round Up
Your Board met on Thursday last week (28/11) and I would like to share several important matters with you.
Firstly to Membership. Your Board is happy to note that Full Playing Membership is full – for the first time in years. In addition, both Ladies and Social Memberships have enjoyed good growth over the past months. However, as previously mentioned, your Board is concerned about your Club’s level of Debt and is frustrated by not being able to improve services to Members, because of being hamstrung by cash flow. As a result, your Board has reluctantly decided to increase the Membership Subscription by $100. This will apply to all memberships except Cadets and Juniors. Members who pay before 31 January 2020 will receive a $15 Discount.
Contrary to some rumours, your Board is pleased to have re-signed with the Club’s Caterers for 3 years. The Restaurant continues to grow its business and recent functions and events have resulted in many new and returning customers. Ueli and his team will soon be offering additional Asian Fusion style dishes and I encourage you to support them over the Festive Season.
Your Club Sub-Committee has reviewed the Halfway Bar, including a full cost analysis and recommended to your Board a return to the previous “Halfies” Bar. The analysis revealed that considerable cost savings could be achieved by reducing waste; service levels maintained or lifted by focusing our offering; and the general ambiance and cleanliness greatly improved. As part of the proposal, Halfie’s Bar will be slightly extended and an uplift in the servery area undertaken. It is hoped that this will be in operation early in the new year. Any help with labour, expertise or anything is welcome, as always.
Your Golf Sub-Committee reviewed the feedback from Members on the Saturday Booking Sheet and recommended to the Board that the Trial not be continued. Thank you for your patience during the trial which showed that the current process is still the best available.
This year’s Turkey Day (Wednesday 11 December) will have a huge boost with The Bell playing from 4:30 to 7pm. If you have not heard them before, you will be in for a treat as they play a collection of Bruce Springsteen, Richard Clapton, Neil Young, Prince, R.E.M., etc. EVERYONE WELCOME…
In other News:
- Happy Hours continue to be popular, however are not well supported on Monday or Tuesday. To this end, Happy Hours will no longer apply to Monday and Tuesday from Jan 1. All other days and times remain unchanged.
- Good change sometimes goes unnoticed, so hopefully you will have noticed that the Bins, etc. have disappeared from the front of the Club.
- New Year’s Eve: the Club will be open with a Juke Box and both A La Carte and Special Menu dining.
- The Club will be closed on Christmas Day but otherwise open.
- As always at this time of year, the Friday Night Raffles feature Hams – and tickets often sell out so arrive early to avoid disappointment.
- The Badge Draw “winner” last week was Mena Rechichi who, despite her attempts, was not able to collect the prize in time. This week it will be $750 – drawn between 7-8pm.
- Grant Newsome will be at the Club every Friday until Christmas and the last Twilight Golf is on Thursday 19.
Finally, on behalf of all your Board, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support over the past year and wish you and yours a very merry Festive Season and a safe and prosperous New Year.
Enjoy the time with your family and friends…
Mark Mathieson – President
