Halfies Bar

First off, I’d like to congratulate everyone involved in the Korean BBQ Golf Evening. Director Edward Yi, his amazing team and the many others who did a great job at arranging a 90+ Field 10-Holes Shotgun Start and a sumptuous Dinner.

Thank you.

Many of you would have noticed that the downstairs area was flooded during the recent rains. The rumours that this cost $20,000 were completely inaccurate and testimony to my previous calls that you only believe what you read and see. In fact, the costs are approximately $30,000 but fortunately covered by Insurance. Part of this was the replacement of the 2 pumps that failed which should reduce the likelihood of the same thing happening again. A more wet-resistant floor covering has been selected and the opportunity to re-paint and refresh has also been taken. Your Board hopes that the inconvenience will be worthwhile.

Over the past few months and after careful financial, health and safety analysis, Your Board has been working with Management to find a more cost-effective and functional alternative to the current halfway bar arrangement. Members should be aware that the staff costs, beer quality, wastage, food preparation and service was resulting in high costs and liability that were neither sustainable nor in Members’ best interests. The halfway bar will return to an updated “Halfies” Bar (named in honour of former Director, the Late John Halfnights) in the next few weeks. Importantly, the beer will return to being piped from the cool-room reducing waste and improving quality and the number of food items will be reduced to streamline service and improve food and beverage safety. Your Board will continue to monitor this change and Members’ feedback is, as always, welcome during the changeover.

Related to this, Your Board is committed to the continuous improvement of the service and ambiance in general but specifically around Halfies Bar, Members will notice subtle but important changes over the coming weeks.

Financially, Your Board is pleased to note that trading conditions have improved significantly over the past months with several months returning a Net Profit to Members. Hopefully the current worldwide health crisis does not change this and our thoughts are with those that are directly affected.

This week sees the Cash Draw hit $1,000 for the first time. Drawn between 7-8pm on Friday, you must be present in the Club to win; so I encourage you to come down, enjoy the company of fellow members, buy a Raffle ticket and see if your name comes up.
