18th Green Construction
Exciting times ahead. Over the coming weeks we we’ll start the re-modelling of our 18th green. All going well and with the weather behaving itself, the actual build time starting with the removal of the old green to the seeding of the new surface will be approximately 4-5 weeks.
Once seeding has taken place and allowed to bed in to the time the green will be open for play will be around in 10-12 weeks, taking completion to sometime in February 2022.
For the avid landscapers/greenkeepers amongst us, to complete this process there are multiple steps involved as listed below:
- Dig up and remove all existing sprinklers and irrigation fittings that can be re used.
- Turf cut the greens surface and remove.
- Use our tractor mounted rotary hoe to cultivate/ hoe all turf in the works area, followed by scraping and stock piling for later use.
- Strip and stockpile soil profile from the green, bunkers and remaining area.
- Start bulk earthworks – shaping green base / levels etc. / bunkers and surrounds to plan.
- Main drainage, irrigation lines and sprinklers heads installed.
- Green subsurface megaflow drainage panel lines placed.
- Green base aggregate placed over drainage lines to a depth of 100mm.
- The amended sand profile for the green added to a depth of 300mm and finish shaping / contours as per design.
- Bunker drainage lining installed (capillary concrete, as used on previous projects)
- Bunker sand added.
- Green Surrounds and fairway turfed with santa ana couch grass.
- The green surface is then seeded with Penn A1 and A4 bent seed mix.
- The twice weekly fertiliser program commences.
As noted above, hopefully baring any weather disasters, the hole will be open for play in February.
